Davis W. Taylor, 71, passed peacefully at his residence in Polk City, FL on September 8, 2017 due to complications following a cancer diagnosis, surgery, and ensuing treatment. He was surrounded by his loving family and friends. Davis was born in Tampa and raised in Plant City. He is predeceased by his mother, Bessie (Bishop) Taylor; father, Jefferson Taylor; and sister, Sharon Mills. Davis is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Barbara Major Taylor; his son, Jefferson, and his wife Joanne and children Heather and Davison; his son, Marcus, and his wife Ashley and children Kadence, Maddox, and Larkyn; and his daughter, Kristi Collins, and her husband Clay and children Kacy, Cody, and Kaleb.

Davis was an avid baseball player in high school even playing two years of ball at Manatee Community College. He then served in the Army before being honorably discharged to care for his parents. In 1969 he began a robust career with UPS that spanned 27 years, working his way up from driver to division manager. Over the years, Davis was an avid athlete, sports enthusiast, umpire, and coach enjoying such things as little league and youth football coaching, UPS company softball, NASCAR, bass fishing with Tuscawilla Bassmasters, and golf. Not to mention, his competitive edge in the Annual Family Fourth of July horseshoe tournament knew no bounds!

A long standing passion of Davis was to keep a well manicured yard and meticulous landscaping of their 2.5 acre Clermont home. Davis enjoyed serving his community alongside his family through such avenues as Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Clermont Assembly of God Church, Liberty Baptist Church, and Junior Achievement programs in the local school system. The impact of his generosity has reached many through such ministries as Compassion International, Campus Crusade for Christ, In Touch Ministries, The Navigators, and Wounded Warriors.

Most recently, Davis was enjoying time between Florida and the beautiful cabin he and his wife built in the mountains of North Carolina. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, spending time with all his grandchildren in Texas, North Carolina, and at the annual family beach vacation. A long-time Florida Gator fan, Davis and Barbara also spent many years supporting the University of Florida Gator Booster program as Bull Gators enjoying many weekends with their Gator friends. Davis had a great love for God, his "Bride", his family and friends, his country, and for the many folks in his community that he blessed throughout his life.
